The Book Discussion Group meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

July 18 @ 6:30 PM–Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher– A heartbreaking story of teenage suicide.  Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a package on his porch, inside are several tapes recorded by Hannah, a classmate who committed suicide weeks earlier.  What do these tapes contain and why did Clay receive them?  What does he learn from them?

Aug 15 @ 6:30 PM–Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury– In a futuristic and oppressive society where books are not only banned but burned, fireman Guy Montag begins to question his duty after meeting an eccentric neighbor.  Montag begins to hoard and read these forbidden books.  When Montag is betrayed he faces a dilemma, should he turn over these books to be burned or risk his career and keep them?

Sept. 19 @ 7:00 PM–There Are No Children Here by Alex Kotlowitz– There are no children here is a moving and powerful account of two remarkable boys struggling to survive Chicago’s Henry Horner homes, a public housing complex disfigured by crime and neglect.
